I recently read that early 17th century French settlers in Québec "tolerated unusual Indian habits, such as entering homes and buildings 'without saying a word, or without any greeting.'"

Did those Indians even knock? There's probably an Indian ghost BEHIND YOU RIGHT NOW!!!

when i was a kid we lived in a house that backed onto a huge forest and my dad would tell me that the woolie woolie man lived out there and would make references that the "woolie woolie man was going to get me" if i didn't do chores etc

sounds like native americans lived in like a summer camp atmosphere and homes were more like cabins except instead of being named after their own tribes maybe the used old celtic tribal formations to color their experience like they'd have a belgae cabin or a nervii cabin or something
